Sex offender charged for not registering move

Aug 8, 2007

A registered child sex offender has moved from Lisle to Naperville without notifying authorities.

For this, the 17-year-old faces criminal felony charges.

A DuPage County grand jury has charged Antwon Brown with failure to notify a change of address and failure to register.

Per the Child Sex Offender Registration Act, convicted offenders are required to notify local authorities, or police, of the town in which they reside within five days of their move. The same goes for the new community to which they relocate.

Because Brown was a minor at the time of his adjudication, his sex offender profile is not public on the state's database; although, it is added to his criminal history.

On May 29 Brown moved from his Lisle home in the 2900 block of Burlington Avenue, according to court records. On June 7, he notified Naperville police of his residence at the Extended Stay, 1575 Bond St.

A compliance check five days later confirmed Brown provided false information to police, public information officer Cmdr. David Hoffman said.

After being arrested on a warrant with $35,000 bond, it was discovered Brown was in fact residing at the Homestead Studio Suites Hotel, 1827 Centre Pointe Circle, according to court records.

Brown was scheduled for arraignment Monday in DuPage County Circuit Court in Wheaton.
