Psychologist takes pills after conviction in Ark. prison sex case

Aug 16, 2007

A former prison psychologist convicted of having sex with an inmate she treated last year yelled "Are you happy now?" at corrections officials. Officials say she swallowed a number of pills in an apparent suicide attempt immediately after the conviction yesterday.

A jury convicted 55-year-old Anna Clark of 2 counts of third-degree sexual assault. Prosecutors say she had sex with a severely depressed and suicidal inmate in the mental health barracks at the Cummins Unit prison at Varner.

After Circuit Judge Rob H. Wyatt read the verdict Wednesday, Clark yelled "Are you happy now?" at correction officials and a state police investigator. At the table, she took at least four pill bottles from her purse and started to swallow their contents.

Lincoln County deputies intervened, then called an ambulance.

The jury recommended a sentence of 3 years, or possibly probation. Sentencing was set for August 24th.
