A Florence man was arrested Wednesday afternoon and accused of trying to lure what he believed to be a teenage girl from South Carolina to have sex.

Ricky Dawson, 27, was charged with unlawful use of electronic means to induce a minor to engage in sex.

Investigators said Dawson engaged in sexual discussion online with an undercover South Carolina police officer posing as a 13-year-old girl.

Authorities said Dawson repeatedly asked the undercover officer to meet him for sex, and the officer contacted local authorities.

Sheriff’s deputies arrested Dawson and confiscated his computer to investigate whether he might have committed additional crimes.
