Parents Angry Over Sex Offender Neighbor

Aug 2, 2007

A group of parents in Brevard County, Fla., were shocked to learn that a sex offender recently moved into their neighborhood and is living in front of two bus stops.

The man, who is not on probation and has registered with the Brevard County Sheriff's Office, moved into the area from Maryland.

The new resident bought his house three weeks ago and deputies said they are in the process of sending out fliers.

Residents said they have not been notified and the Brevard County School District was not aware of the situation until Local 6 called them, the report said.

An official with the school district said it typically splits the stop so no student will have to walk by the offender's home and said they will make the change when a parent calls them directly.

Parents told Local 6 News that that is only half of the solution.

"A reasonable fair solution is for the 78-year-old monster to move to a retirement community," parent Jody Denole said. "He has no business moving into our neighborhood; this is nothing more than a child in a candy store."

Deputies said the man is allowed to live near a bus stop but not within 1,000 feet of schools, parks and day care facilities.

The man did not answer requests to speak with him about the story. He was not identified in the report because he has not done anything illegal.
