A registered sex offender was arrested yesterday, charged with strangling a woman found stuffed in bags in a Times Square hotel room.

Police charged Clarence Dean, 35, of Alabama with second-degree murder.

They say he abruptly checked out of the Hotel Carter on Wednesday after a two-week stay. The next day, police say a maid found the woman's body under a bed.

The city's medical examiner says she had been beaten and strangled.

The victim has not yet been identified.

NY1 spoke to some tourists at the hotel who say conditions inside are deplorable and that the staff has refused to answer their questions.

"They just shooed us way, didn't tell us that it was safe or if it's unsafe,” said one hotel guest. “They didn't tell us anything. They didn't handle the situation very well."

"The only reason I'm staying here is because everything is paid for and I know I'm not going to get my money back, otherwise I would be gone," said another.

Police say Dean attempted a lewd act with a child in Florida in the mid-1990s. He's been wanted in Alabama since March because he moved without notifying local authorities.
