Print StoryEmail StoryA doctor's wife and another woman have been sentenced for their roles in a prescription drugs-for-sex case.

Etta Lea Blankenship-Kiser, 31, received six months in prison and Arlene A. Gartin, 36, was sentenced to six months of home confinement.

Both women pleaded guilty in June to one federal count of obtaining drugs by fraud with the help of others. They were sentenced Monday by U.S. District Judge Joseph R. Goodwin.

Blankenship-Kiser's husband, Dr. Donald R. Kiser of Parkersburg, pleaded guilty in June to one count of conspiracy to distribute controlled substances. Prosecutors said the 49-year-old osteopath prescribed thousands of pills without a legitimate medical reason.

During his plea hearing, Kiser said he wrote phony prescriptions for his wife and another woman, with whom he was involved sexually. Kiser said he also wrote prescriptions for the women's friends and family members. The drugs included oxycodone and hydrocodone.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Monica Schwartz has said Kiser used the pills to "attract, retain and control these women in his life.''

Kiser is scheduled to be sentenced Sept. 27.
