A 40-year-old Miami-Dade middle school teacher has been charged by police for allegedly having sex with a 14-year-old boy. Mariella Brenlla of Miami was arrested for lewd and lascivious battery on a juvenile, police said.

The charges stem from what police said were incidents where the teacher engaged in sexual activity with the boy, who at the time as an eighth-grade student at Ponce De Leon Middle School, where Brenlla taught.

The Dade School Board told Local 10 she was re-assigned to another job at the school since February, when the investigation began.
