Former NBL coach faces child sex charge

Aug 6, 2007

The alleged victim in a sex case involving former National Basketball League assistant coach Rodney Hind gave evidence on the first day of his committal hearing.

Hind, 47, of Warrnambool, in south-western Victoria, has been charged with sexual penetration of a girl aged between 10 and 16 years and six counts of possessing child pornography.

The charges were laid after Hind was arrested at the South West Institute of TAFE, where he worked, in August last year.

Police alleged the sex offence occurred at the TAFE college in June and involved a teenage girl.

She gave evidence in the Warrnambool Magistrates' Court for almost two hours.

Other witnesses are expected to give evidence when the committal hearing resumes on Tuesday.

Hind was an assistant coach of the now defunct Victoria Giants NBL team in 2002-03 and had also coached the Warrnambool Seahawks team in the Big V league, Victoria's premier basketball competition.
