Police are trying to trace a group of people they believe may hold vital information following a serious sex attack in Cheshire.

A young woman was awoken by a man as she slept at her home in the Peel House Lane area of Widnes in the early hours of Saturday morning.

She was seriously sexually assaulted and left with minor injuries.

Officers believe a group walking down Peel House Lane away from the town at about 0320 BST may have seen the man.

Police think the men and women could hold key evidence that could help find the man and are asking them to come forward.
