Release of Sex Offender Has Horsham, Pa. Residents On Edge

Jul 16, 2007

Some residents of a Horsham, Pa. neighborhood are worried that a convicted sex offender will be moving into their community when he’s paroled from prison later this year after serving more than two years for luring a teenage girl into a five-year sexual relationship.

Sheldon Granor has been labeled a violent sexual predator and that designation triggers community notification when he’s released from jail. His parole is expected in the next several weeks and many residents are concerned he will return to a home he owns on Rolling Glen Drive. They met with state, county, and local officials to air their concerns and try to get some answers about what to expect.

Gary Bissig is a liaison between the police department and the community:

“What we feel is important is to get accurate information in such circumstances and unfortunately there was a tremendous amount of misinformation that was transmitted by e-mail.”

Bissig calls this a lightning rod issue with parents concerned about a predator living around their children. More meetings are likely in the weeks ahead and Horsham officials are mulling limits on where sex offenders can live in the township.
